Irish Eyes and the Hive!

IrishEyesPoker.com has always been a trusted favourite of poker players everywhere but the last two years have been especially tough for our business. When the Entraction network closed down we moved to a number of new platforms but none of them delivered the high standards our players have come to expect from us. Now however we've finally reached higher ground and we can see that our players absolutely love what we have to offer now as part of the Hive poker network.
Whilst there are plenty of online options available to players these days a lot of skins tend to be very much of a muchness – but now the Hive has come along and players are responding by joining up in huge numbers.

We’re fast creating a “buzz” around Ireland and we've started to pollinate into the UK & Europe now too. Maybe that’s why PokerScout is calling us the ‘fastest growing network in the world’ – some praise indeed.
IrishEyesPoker.com is a long standing online poker name, well known especially in Ireland, but also from past associations with the London poker scene. We've signed up with the Hive network and now are players are reaping the rewards from a company that is driven to deliver exactly what poker players want, that’s big tournament guarantees and healthy cash game action 24/7.
IrishEyes Marketing Executive Saorla Quinn has been quoted as saying “It’s great that we are able to bring the Hive network to Ireland, the UK and all over the world. We bring some truly unique and dynamic concepts to poker players, via a brand that is well known and respected amongst the poker community. Irish Eyes Poker’s reputation is certainly being enhanced by being part of the Hive network and we look forward to this continuing growth. We hope players will enjoy the experience and benefit financially from all the great poker action too”.

One great feature about the IrishEyesPoker site is that it doesn't matter whether you are a PC, Mac, mobile or tablet user we accommodate them all. Reviews have been extremely positive : “The software itself is excellent, and despite the fact that it is advertised as focused on being “light and user-friendly”, it doesn't fall short in any way when it comes to graphics quality, lobby navigability and extra options, both graphics and game play-wise. “

Be a Braveheart or get the Hand of God!
Most of our players have had the opportunity to ‘test drive’ the software on Irish Eyes and it is safe to say that everyone has been quite impressed. The lobby is a classic and friendly sight, as are the individual tournament lobbies. The table graphics are simple, yet there is an air of sophistication about them. The avatars appear to be hand-drawn, and they’re quite original in a caricature-ish sort of way. Our personal preference is the Bruce Lee character – though Mel Gibson’s Braveheart and the Diego Maradona graphics are also very popular.

Feeding time for the PLO Sharks!
We’ve mentioned that traffic is picking up and this is making for some great value in the tournament offerings. Omaha players will be delighted to see a great Omaha presence, including a fun little PLO jackpot that resets every 30 minutes for the high hand in that period. Not life changing cash at all, but a juicy little progressive bonus and players are commenting that we have “very soft cash tables” (quote: thePokeriety.com)….bloody waters for those PLO sharks out there!
Irish Eyes Poker is also offering an innovative element for a new customer bonus according to Saorla Quinn: “The Irish Eyes Log in bonus appears when you log in, even before you deposit. It then clears over a certain time up to 500 euro total, in 5 euro payments, which allows players of all levels to deposit (even multiple times) in that period and release the bonus 5 euro at a time. Your ‘first deposit’ can be a minimum amount and you can still claim your bonus (unlike almost every other poker room in the world who tie their bonus to the amount of a player’s first deposit)”.
It is really refreshing to be able to play a brand new site with new options, features and a glut of different tournaments and events to enjoy. We feel that Irish Eyes will certainly be smiling as it grows within the Hive so watch this space as the buzz gets louder!

English Soccer starts this week - Michael Flanagan gives his tips!

Hi All

I am usually a bit reluctant to predict the opening day’s games. However, I do believe you can get value for money with no current form to go by. This week I am following home teams, followed by clubs I expect to do relatively well this season.

Middlesbrough v Birmingham City.

I am tipping Boro to come out on top in this game.
Birmingham have struggled on and off the field, The Blues most influential player  Tom Adeyemi could be on his to Cardiff before the weekend. This season could be a real struggle for them.
Middlesbrough have signed some decent players and I expect them to make a bid for a play-off position this season. Home win.

Derby Co. v Rotherham Utd.

This certainly looks a banker home win for Derby. The Rams failed to get to the Premiership by a whisker last season. I do not believe they will be as strong this season but will be in the top half.
New boys Rotherham will find this game tough. I am sure they will put in a good performance but I’m sticking to another home win.

MK Dons v Gillingham

A difficult one to call at this time of the season. I will tip another home win going by history and this season’s expectations. Home win.

Preston North End v Notts Co.

I expect PNE to push Sheffield United all the way for the promotion this season. They should have too much for Notts County. Home win.

For this 4 timer, odds should be around 7/1 at IrishEyesBet.com

Best of Luck
Michael Flanagan

The Pokeriety - Irish Eyes Buzzing in The Hive!

Irish Eyes Buzzing in The Hive!

Whilst there are plenty of online options about to quench your poker thirst, skins all these days tend to be very much of a muchness – mainly because they are all hosted on one or two networks, so whichever is your skin of choice, it is the same software, graphics and structure that will be on your screen – like it or not.
However, a new network is fast creating a “buzz” around Europe, and has also started to pollinate the UK online poker market. The network is named the ‘Hive’ – and PokerScout is calling it the ‘fastest growing network in the world’ – some indictment indeed.
One long standing online poker name, well known especially in Ireland, but also from past associations with the London poker scene, is Irish Eyes Poker – and they have signed up with the Hive network and are a large part of this expansion. Irish Eyes Poker supremo, Steven Merrick, is certainly enjoying the experience and some stability, after a year or two of volatility in finding a suitable home for his well regarded poker offering.
Steven comments “Its great that we are able to bring the Hive network to the UK and bring some truly unique and dynamic concepts to poker players, via a brand that is well known and, we feel, respected amongst the poker community. Irish Eyes poker and its reputation is certainly being enhanced by being part of the Hive network and we look forward to this continuing growth, that we hope players will enjoy and most certainly benefit from”.
One great feature about the Irish Eyes Poker site is that it doesn’t matter whether you are a PC or Mac user, the Hive accommodates them all. Reviews have been extremely positive : “The software itself is excellent, and despite the fact that it is advertised as focused on being “light and user-friendly”, it doesn’t fall short in any way when it comes to graphics quality, lobby navigability and extra options, both graphics and game play-wise. “

Not life changing cash at all, but a juicy little progressive bonus in what we found to be very soft cash tables….bloody waters for those PLO sharks out there!
Irish Eyes Poker is also offering an innovative element for a new customer bonus; Steven explains why he feels this is preferable to the standard matched first deposit bonus commonly available “One element that I like is our player Log-In Bonus. It is a little different to a first deposit / signup bonus in that up to now we have always ran deposit bonuses which are 100% or 200% etc of the amount deposited cleared over a certain time. The Log in bonus appears when you log in, even before you deposit. It then clears over a certain time up to 500 euro total, in 5 euro payments, which allows players of all levels to deposit (even multiple times) in that period and release the bonus. It is therefore not dependent on the players ‘first deposit’ amount – which I think can be limiting as the bonus released in a first deposit bonus is tied in with the initial deposit only.”
It is really refreshing to be able to play a brand new site with new options, features and a glut of different tournaments and events to enjoy. The Premiership, Championship and League 1 and 2

The new season is almost upon us. Clubs have been going on a spending fest and this will continue right up to the end of August. Arsenal have finally decided to join in and I expect the Gunners to be in with a more realistic chance of success this season.

Manchester United under Van Gaal will be much stronger but I can’t see Van Gaal winning the premiership at his first attempt. United certainly are going to build a very strong and talented squad.

Liverpool have been equally busy. With Suarez moving to Barcalona I cant see any player coming anywhere near Suarez’s influence. I still expect Liverpool to make a top 4 finish.

Chelsea at 9/5 and ManCity at 17/10 to win it will both always be up there. Out of the 5 mentioned I think Chelsea will miss out on a top 4 finish.

I’m going to tip Arsenal for the title this season, who are 11/2 right now on www.irisheyesbet.com/sports to take it..... spending the big money will finally put Arsenal on top.

Regarding relegation I’m tipping new boys Burnley and Leicester with Swansea.

Championship.

The Championship is notoriously difficult to predict.

Cardiff City (33/5) have bought a number of players. Guerra, Le Fondre, Burgstaller, Macheda  and with more to follow they will have the strongest squad in the Championship. I would expect Norwich (9/1) to press them hard with Reading  Forest and Brighton all at 27/2 to take the honours chasing these two.

It's difficult predicting who will struggle but I'd say Millwall, Blackpool (off field problems too) and possibly Bournemouth.

League 1

In my opinion Sheffield United (53/10 = just over 10 1/2 to 1) will do well. They are a massive club (as are Wednesday) and belong in a higher division. With their fan base and a few more players they will do well. I also expect Preston North End and Coventry will be in the top 5 also. I would be more confident of Coventry if they could get back to their home ground. Playing their home games in a different town is ridiculous.

I can't see any obvious clubs who will struggle. I'll avoid any  mention of teams that will struggle.

League 2

Tranmere Rovers look a likely team that will do well. I think Luton could surprise a few people after being out of the league for a few seasons. Portsmouth, Plymouth and Exeter could improve too. Particularly Plymouth. When it comes to tipping results I believe the lower leagues are more predictable.

Whichever club you follow, I hope you have a good season.

Michael Flanagan.

The World Cup Semi-Finals Are Here!!!

The World Cup Semi-Finals are here already. What will we do when this amazing event is over?

All eyes on Belo Horizonte for the first semi -final.

Germany are my red hot favourites. The injury to Neymar is massive. The loss of Thiago Silva is equally big. Germany’s threat going forward will be even bigger without Brazil’s top defender. But there is a chance that Brazil will get the suspension overturned.

I am very confident of Germany progressing to the final , particularly with the absence of Neymar and Silva.

Current prices with Irisheyesbet.com are both  Brazil 17/10 (2.70)  and the same for Germany. The draw is currently 21/10  (3.10)

Germany progressing to the final for me,  though it might take longer than the 90 minutes.

The second semi final, Argentina v Holland is the most unpredictable of the two games.
I recently tipped Argentina to lift the trophy but I am becoming less convinced the longer the competition goes on. Has the time finally arrived that Holland become World Champions?
Di Maria is out and will be missed. Messi is playing superbly and could win the game single-handed. At times Argentina looked very strong against Belgium....a team I rate highly.
Holland with RVP, Robben and others can win this game and I think they will. In fact they are my new tip to life the trophy.
Holland are priced at 11/5 (3.20) the draw is 41/20  (3.05) and Argentina to win at 7/5 (2.40)
I believe both games will be exciting and hopefully it will lead to a memorable World Cup Final.
Don't forget  to keep an eye on the prices at www.irisheyesbet.com/sports as they change often and please follow us on Twitter @IrishEyesBet

World Cup Quarter-Finals

Its already been an exciting World Cup with many great matches. However we are now into the potentially really exciting stages as we get to the Quarter-finals. The teams remaining are much more evenly matched and the results are much tougher to call.

France v Germany (4th July)
Brazil   v Colombia (4th July)
Argentina v Belgium (5th July)
Holland v Costa Rica (5th July)

I do believe there will be a surprise in store for one of the supposedly bigger countries.

My first tip is Holland to beat Costa Rica. The Dutch are priced at 1.49 to win over 90 minutes. The draw is currently 4.15 with IrishEyesBet.com. Although  I've been massively impressed with the Costa Ricans I think this hurdle will be just too big for them.

France and Germany could go either way. The Germans are favourites but I am going to go for a French victory. The French have flair and I do believe Deschamps now knows his best starting XI. Karim Benzema could have a huge say in the outcome of this game, he oozes class. It’s France for me over 90 minutes and IrishEyesBet.com price a French victory at 3.15 the draw is 3.10 with a German victory at 2.42.

Brazil v Colombia. Will Brazil continue to struggle? I believe Neymar will drag them through yet again. For the life of me I can’t understand why Scholari continues using Fred. He obviously sees something in him that I don’t. Colombia have done well and will certainly match the Brazilians in most departments. The home factor will probably settle this. Brazil are priced at 1.82 the draw is a generous 3.55 with a Colombian victory at 4.55.

Argentina v Belgium. There could be an upset here. I am going to go for Belgium. I like their overall shape and they are quick and dangerous going forward. It could be heartbreak for Messi and co. I’m certainly sticking my neck out for a Belgian victory but I do believe they can deliver.

Belgium are 3.75 the draw is 3.30 and an Argentinian victory is priced at 2.08. A game not to be missed as there could be a good few goals in this game.

Best of luck

World Cup - 2nd Round

I believe most fans would say this has been a hugely successful tournament so far. With the exception of the “Suarez incident” and an overly reliance on theatrics by certain players, I've been very impressed.

Now we get down to the knock out stages.

I expect France, Germany and Argentina to progress. Brazil v Chile is a tricky game but with Neymar in top form, I expect them to get past Chile. Having said that, Chile will be much more formidable than Cameroon.

My tips involve the other 4 games.

Colombia v Uruguay

With Suarez now banned, I think the Uruguayans will find it tough against Colombia. I could see this game going beyond the 90 minutes. The draw is priced at 3.35 with a Colombian victory at 1.98. I’m tipping Colombia over 90 minutes.

Holland v Mexico

Both teams have done very well in their respective groups. Holland have been very impressive, and the  Mexicans have  surprised quite a few fans. History, form and an excellent price of a Dutch victory at 2.08, is enough for me to tip Holland to win over 90 minutes.

Costa Rica v Greece

To say Costa Rica have surprised many would be  an understatement. They have reached the second round the hard way and luck was not involved at all. The Greeks have done well to reach this far. They are solid defensively but lack goals. I’m tipping Costa Rica over 90 minutes at 2.44.

Belgium v USA

I can’t see anything but a Belgian victory in this game. The U.S.A. can counter attack and are dangerous. I do feel the Belgians will be to strong for them and I am tipping a Belgian victory over 90 minutes. IEB offer an excellent1.84 with the draw at 3.40

Best of luck

This week's world cup tips

Last week’s tips were quite successful. Going into the last round of group matches can be a little trickier. If teams have already qualified do they put out full teams? Do you they put in 100% effort? I’ll stick to games that teams have something to fight for.

Croatia v Mexico

This looks a very tough one to call. Mexico have played well and were unlucky against Brazil. I believe Croatia to be the better all round team and with this in mind I am going with them.

Croatia are priced at a generous 2.65 (as are Mexico) and I expect them to shade it……just.

Costa Rica v England

Costa Rica have qualified but I’m sure they want to ensure they finish top of the group. However, I do believe England will want to win this game. Hodgson will hopefully start with Barkley. I have mentioned before that I believed he should of started both previous games. The pressure will be off England now. I fully expect them to win this game.

England are priced at 1.84 to win the game, and I expect a few goals too.

USA v Germany

This game “could” be a tad controversial. The USA need a draw to ensure they progress to the second round. Germany would be happy with the same result with the minimum of effort. I wouldn’t suggest that both teams would come to an understanding as such.

The USA team have a strong German influence….. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann and several players also. Interestingly German coach Joachim Low worked under Klinsmann in 2006. It’s a tough call. Im going to stick my head out and predict a not surprisingly drawn game.

The draw is priced at Irisheyesbet at 2.50.

Uruguay v Italy

This is a game the Uruguyans have to win. Unfortunately for them they are up against Italy. I do not believe this Italian team to be very good but they do always seem to do just enough at the right time. Whilst Balotelli can be so frustrating, he can deliver the goods at times too. If he can stay disciplined (and it’s a big if) I can see Italy getting the right result.  Italy are priced at 2.65 with the draw at 3.15. Ill go for an Italian win with the Italians catching the Uruguyans on the break.

World Cup Tips

This weekend I am not going for the usual home , draw or away result.

In my tips I am including the amount of goals. For those not used to this form of betting I will explain.

Switzerland v France

I have gone for over 2.5 goals in the match. Quite simply this means there must be 3 goals or more in the match. It does not matter who scores the goals. The price at Irish Eyes Bet is currently 2.06.

I fully expect Karim Benzema to add to his total in this game.

Argentina v Iran

When you look at Argentina’s line up nothing but a comfortable victory can be predicted.

I’m pushing the boat out on this as  I am tipping over 4.5 goals. Again, this means 5 goals or more must be scored. A 4-1 victory will win the bet. A generous price of  4.30 is currently quoted at Irish Eyes Bet.

I have also gone for 2 regular tips.

Honduras v Ecuador

Both teams put in creditable performances in their opening game. I felt Ecuador were unlucky to lose to the Swiss. Ecuador are priced at 1.66 to win and if they put in a strong performance I expect them to come out on top.

Belgium v Russia

Russia didn’t look that good against the Koreans. They are physically strong but lack that flair for me. The Belgians have flair in abundance and I can only see them getting stronger. I’m not sure if their nerves got to them against Algeria. However, after gifting the Algerians a goal they did enough in the second half and indeed they could of won by one or two more. Belgium will not find it easy against Russia but they should prevail.

The one game I am looking forward to seeing is that of Holland v Chile. It’s a tough one to call ……..I believe both teams would settle for a draw.

This group has been the most entertaining one for me. Australia’s courage and indeed skill has earned many admirers. As for Spain, the less said the better.

World Cup Tips for this coming week.

Belgium v Algeria

Belgium are clear favourites in this game. There is good news for the Belgians as Romelu Lukaku is likely to start after an injury scare.

Adnan Januzaj could be a potential big star emerging from the World Cup. This Belgian team has an excellent squad and it would not surprise me if they went far.

I can’t see Algeria causing an upset in this game. It’s likely that the Algerians will finish bottom of Group H.

I predict a comfortable victory for Belgium who are quoted at 1.45

Spain v Chile

Chile could be on the end of a Spanish backlash after the humiliation of a 5-1 loss to the Dutch. Vicente Del Bosque biggest problem is who will he play up? Torres hardly inspires confidence and the jury is still out on Diego Costa.

Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli will be delighted with three points on the board. Chiles got off to a flying start against the Australians. I believe the Spanish will be too tough for the Chileans. Cardiff City defender Gary Medel lacks height and pace at the back but Sampaoli might give Medel a defensive midfield role against the Spanish.

I’m going for a Spanish victory. Spain are 1.62 with the Chileans at 5.20

Uruguay v England

Uruguay suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Costa Rica. The Costa Ricans fully deserved the victory and Uruguay were very poor. Even if Suarez is fit I wouldn’t be too confident of their chances against England.

I was impressed with England’s display against Italy. Sterling had a very good game and Sturridge is looking a quality striker. I’m not Gerrard’s biggest fan, you can’t progress on past history. The player I am a massive fan of is Ross Barkley, I would play him from the start in every game. Barkley has a massive future.

It’s certainly an English victory for me.

England are currently priced at 2.16 with Uruguay at 3.40 on Irish Eyes Bet

World Cup Day 2

I can truly say the World Cup has finally arrived. After a mediocre opening two games, this tournament has come alive. There is little to say that hasn't been said already regarding the opening game.

The European and World Champions Spain had a tricky opening game. After Alonso put the Spanish 1-0 up through a penalty  most fans (and I was one of them) thought Spain would play their usual possession style and see out the game. Up stepped Robin Van Persie with a goal of great skill and vision. It’s not often that I say that about a header. In the second half the game turned into a disaster on so many levels for Spain.
Casillas had a nightmare, Diego Costa contributed an attempted headbutt and Pique and Ramos had a game that they will both want to forget.
The Dutch were a revelation. In the first half, Holland ruffled the Spanish. Some tough challenges and the odd elbow knocked Spain out of their usual composed style of play. What followed in the second half was a major shock. Robben teased and tormented the champions defense. It is no exaggeration that Holland could have added to their five goals.
What was so remarkable was that Van Persie's header was the pick of the games six goals. It was a header of such vision. It will be tough for the Spanish to qualify now but I do believe they will go through.
Tips.
England v Italy
This is a  game that's a tough one to call. Will Hodgson play the youngsters? I do believe Sterling and Barkley should start.
England for the first time have arrived for a World Cup without the hype from the English media. They could surprise a few people.
To win the game, England and Italy are both 2.80 to win the game, with the draw at 2.95.  I can't quite make up mind on going for an England win by 2-1 at 11.00 or a draw with a scoreline of 2-2 at 20.00.
Uruguay v Costa Rica
The big talking point of this game is will Suarez start? If he doesn't, then  Uruguay should still have too much for the Costa Ricans. Backing a Uruguayan  win at1.45 with perhaps a scoreline of 3-1 at 15.00
Colombia v Greece

I can't see anything other than a Colombian victory. Colombia are quoted at 1.88 and I will go with a 3-0 correct scoreline. This is quoted at an excellent price of 40.00

My Favourite Memories of The World Cup

The World Cup is upon us again. Why do we love it so much? As the games begin my mind drifts back to games past and some beauties come to mind. Here are some of my favorite memories of World Cups past.

Italia 90

Ireland's first appearance in the World Cup. We were supposed to be there for the ride, under Jack Charlton that was never going to happen.

Romania were the favourites. Gheorghe Hagi was a truly brilliant player, he played for Real Madrid and Barcelona and several other top clubs. The task was a daunting one. I have three stand out memories of this game. Packie Bonner's save in the penalty shoot out, David O'Leary's penalty that put us through to the Q-F's and my father's tears after O'Leary's penalty. I had only seen tears in my father's eyes twice. The second occasion was on the death of my grandmother.

Mexico 1970.

The Brazilian team of 1970 was something else. Pele, Gerson, Tostao, Jairzinho, Carlos Alberto etc. This team were a sight to behold. Magnificent games between England and West Germany in the quarter final and Italy v West Germany in the semi - final was an absolute classic, probably my favourite World Cup game of all time.

USA 1994

Yes, I know you are all expecting me to mention Ireland v Italy. My stand out memory of this World Cup (with the exception of the Italian match) is from a selfish point of view. Bulgaria were playing Greece and I was looking for a value for money punt. I took Bulgaria to win 4-0 at what I thought was an incredible price of 50-1. I knew the Greeks were relatively poor. I also knew the Bulgarians were more than a handy team. They had won in Paris 2-1 to beat the French and qualify. When Borimirov knocked in a parried save well into injury time I nearly hit the roof. Good old Borimirov will always have a place in my heart.
With all of the above, I have looked at the various games for a first round. I do not believe I am going to get another 50/1 chance. What really stands out for me is for Argentina to beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 3-0 at 10/1. At the moment they are excellent value in the betting on IrishEyesBet. That's certainly my pick.

West Germany 1974

Holland's brand of football was fantastic. Holland truly deserved to lift the World Cup in 74. There is nothing more to be said.

I could give many more examples. All fans have their favourites, for many reasons. I hope Brazil2014 will be remembered for the best of reasons. Not the Social unrest, Sepp Bletter's 175th year as president of FIFA or dodgy decisions on the pitch!
